The Borland Electric began as the Ideal Electric in 1910 but was renamed the Borland Electric in time for the Chicago Automobile Show in January 1912, when the company was reorganized as the Borland-Grannis Company.

In November 1912, a Borland Electric made a successful 104 mile run from Chicago to Milwaukee on a single battery charge. The first Borland Electrics had chain drive but shaft drive was introduced in 1912 and all Borland Electrics were shaft drive from 1913.

The Borland Electric was aimed at a wealthy clientele and showed some success. However, the general interest in electric vehicles began to reduce and, in 1914, the Borland Electric joined with the Argo Electric and the Broc Electric to form the American Electric Vehicle Company, although the individual marque names continued to be used until all production ceased in 1916.

Borland also built two models of chain driven electric trucks. The Borland Model 10 was an open express truck and the Borland Model 15 was a close body van.

Emblems

I can find no original period photos or illustrations of Borland Electric cars or trucks, which show an emblem. However, there is a Borland Electric emblem, see the rectangular, painted brass Borland emblem shown above at the top of this post. This Borland Electric emblem is very rare.

The "Borland" name was also displayed on small maker's nameplate/serial plates, see example shown below:

The painted aluminum Borland emblem shown below is believed to be from a Borland Electric truck and is also very rare.
