The Sayers & Scovill Company had been established in 1877 to build horse drawn carriages and hearses. An experimental automobile car was built in 1906 but when production began in 1907 it was a truck and this was followed by ambulances and hearses which became the main product of Sayers & Scovill sometimes known as S & S (see Sayers & Scovill).

In 1917 the company introduced a passenger car called Sayers, which was a 55 hp six-cylinder assembled automobile with top class coachwork. The Sayers was initially offered as a five-passenger touring model with four-passenger roadster models also offered for 1918 and 1919. A wider range of body styles was available from 1920. The Sayers was produced in small numbers until 1924.  Sayers & Scovill introduced another car called the S & S a few months later but this was simply an eight-passenger conversion of the S & S funeral car.

Emblems

Sayers Six advertisements show a photo of the Sayers car with a radiator emblem and an illustration of the emblem, see example shown below from 1921:

This emblem depicts the red and white enamel Sayers radiator emblem shown below. This Sayers radiator emblem is thought to have been the first Sayers emblem used from 1917 but I cannot confirm this. This Sayers radiator emblem is very rare.

The following black enamel Sayers radiator emblem may have been carried by the few Sayers used as funeral cars. This Sayers radiator emblem is rare.
